Our Team

We pride ourselves on the wide-ranging depth of knowledge and experience across our team.  Meadfleet directors have over 90 years’ experience in the housebuilding industry combined with strong financial and technical expertise.  They are supported by a skilled management team which includes an MSc qualified ecologist, ensuring that we manage sites in a sustainable manner following ecological best practise.

Our regional management team possess a wealth of experience and knowledge across the sector with most holding a BSc or Master’s degree in a relevant subject.

Our senior management, administration, legal and finance teams are all based at our headquarters in Hertfordshire, whilst our network of regional managers work within their respective areas ensuring they are well placed to visit sites routinely and as required to respond to any issues.

Meadfleet Directors

Meadfleet was founded by Mr John Cawthorn, an experienced solicitor working within the housebuilding industry who observed the requirement for private companies to adopt open spaces where local authorities no longer had the appetite or budgets to do so.

John and his fellow directors hold a wealth of experience in the new homes sector across various disciplines.  Supported by a knowledgeable management team, the directors are actively involved in, and responsible for, the delivery of Meadfleet’s services; defining objectives and overseeing the governance of the business to ensure that it serves the needs of both developers and residents.

Paul Miller, Managing Director

Having originally trained and qualified as an accountant, Paul joined a FTSE 250 housebuilder initially as Regional Financial Director, before progressing to Regional Director where he was responsible for multi-million-pound construction contracts including significant land assembly / JV schemes delivering up to 5,000 new homes.  Joining Meadfleet in 2012 as Managing Director, Paul brings a combination of financial acumen, a breadth of housing development experience and in-depth knowledge of land acquisition and development to the business.  Working within the Board of Directors, Paul ensures that Meadfleet continues to develop successfully with sound strategic leadership.

Steve Carter, Technical Director

A civil engineer by profession, Steve is one of the longest standing Directors, joining Meadfleet in 2005.  Having worked for numerous major housing developers and engineering consultancies, Steve acquired extensive practical and strategic experience in all technical aspects of site development. He delivered numerous residential infrastructure facilities to support new developments and strategic highways infrastructure for towns and cities throughout the South West. With a specialist knowledge of SuDS, Meadfleet benefits from dedicated engineering expertise under his management.

John Cawthorn, Director

A solicitor, John headed Barratt Developments legal department for a number of years before setting up his own law firm, working exclusively for the volume house builders.  During this time, John wrote a number of legal textbooks, one of which, on management, is now in its third edition.

In 2002, John launched Meadfleet as a commercial venture in partnership with one of his previous clients.  More recently, John, with the other Directors, took the company into private ownership.

Graham Hunt, Director

Graham brings financial and executive management experience from a long and successful career in a major US corporation.  Now based in the UK again, Graham seeks opportunities to use his expertise in company start-ups, management buy outs and MBIs.  Graham joined Meadfleet in 2014 and provides a fresh perspective to the direction of the business gained from his range of business experience around the world.

David King, Finance Director

David qualified in 2013 having trained at a top 20 accountancy firm and joined Meadfleet full-time in 2016 after working with the company since 2012.  With several years’ experience gained in a number of different industries, David has initiated many innovative and exciting ideas to streamline and enhance Meadfleet’s operations.  Working as part of the senior management team, David assumes responsibility for the management of all business accounts and transactions together with Meadfleet’s IT requirements.  David also oversees the resident billing process and works alongside the Managing Director to ensure Meadfleet’s financial security.  David is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA).
