Competitive Communities!

At Meadfleet, we enjoy finding ways to connect with residents, local schools, and communities. One way we do this is through our regular competitions, which we run for both schools and residents to encourage a bit of friendly fun among neighbours and peers.

In our last August newsletter, we held two resident competitions for everyone living on a Meadfleet development. The first was our wildlife-friendly garden photo competition. We wanted to see what our residents had introduced into their gardens – whether that was a bird feeder, pollinator-friendly planting, or a bug hotel – to help encourage and support local wildlife.

We received some fantastic entries, all showcasing a range of wildlife-friendly garden features. Our winner was Annette from Powys, whose photo captured a flurry of sparrows making the most of her bird feeders! Annette was prized a well deserved £150 garden centre voucher.

The next competition we ran was our children’s Buzz and Flutter poster competition. We invited our younger residents to get creative and design a poster inspired by our Buzz and Flutter campaign. The only requirement was that the poster had to feature birds, bees and butterflies – with the rest completely up to them!

Our winner was Olivia, aged 9, from Derby, for her fantastic creation. We loved that her poster highlighted several ways we can all help wildlife, such as putting up bug hotels, providing bird seed and growing plants.

For her efforts, Olivia received an art bundle and a family National Trust pass, which we hope the whole family will enjoy!

Our latest school competition was very popular, with lots of entries into our butterfly poster competition. The winning entry had the opportunity to win a hamper and £300 cash prize for their school, and we had goodies on offer for the runners-up. We provided participants with a plain butterfly template, and it was up to them to make it beautiful and bright! Judging was difficult with so many fun and colourful entries, but our winner was Noah (age 6) from Codicote Primary School. Our runners-up were Kash (age 11) and Barney (age 6) from North Muskham Primary School.

Next, our team headed to Codicote Primary School to present the school with their cheque and give Noah his certificate and well-earned prizes! The school were delighted and are going to put the money toward more insect and animal homes to encourage more wildlife into their school grounds.

If you would like to nominate a school to work with our Meadfleet Academy, and to ensure they are updated about any future competitions, please follow our link below and fill in the form to get in touch.
