Looking for easy ways to keep children entertained this summer holiday? Your local green spaces are full of simple, nature-based adventures that make it easy to get outdoors and have some fun. Here are our top tips:
- Mini Wildlife Safari:Â See how many creatures you can find in your local open spaces – look for bugs under rocks, watch bees and butterflies on flowers, or spot birds in the trees. If you have a magnifying glass or binoculars, even better! See what you can find and record it as you go. Check out our resources webpage linked below for free activity and spotter sheets to print at home.Â
- Nature Art Studio:Â Grab some paper and crayons, then search for leaves or tree bark with cool textures. Lay the paper over your find and gently rub the side of a crayon across it to reveal the pattern. Collect as many different textures and shapes as you can to create your own nature art gallery!
- Colour & Sound Hunts:Â Ask children to find as many colours in nature as they can – green grass, blue sky, yellow flowers etc. Alternatively, pick one colour and see how many things in that colour they can spot. Similarly, try a sound hunt and see how many natural sounds they can hear – from rustling leaves to buzzing insects. It is a fun way to tune into the world around you.
