Through our Meadfleet Academy initiative, we are fortunate to be able to work with some wonderful schools across the country, to educate and inspire children about wildlife and the environment. In April last year, we partnered with Sutton Primary School in Bedfordshire, where our Ecology Team delivered a talk for pupils focused on the wildlife they may encounter in and around their homes and school grounds, and practical ways they can help support wildlife in urban areas.
We were very excited to return to Sutton Primary School later on to lead a planting activity to transform the front of the school grounds. Our team worked alongside the pupils to plant 500 tulip bulbs, which should add colour in the spring and provide a useful nectar source for pollinators.
To help staff and pupils continue developing their outdoor spaces, Meadfleet donated gardening equipment, including gloves and trowels. We also contributed £300 towards planters, so the school can add even more colour and interest to create a welcoming and vibrant space that everyone can enjoy when they arrive at school.
We are very much looking forward to the results of this project coming to life. Well done to the children for their hard work – it was great to see such enthusiasm and everyone getting involved.
