At Meadfleet, we’re passionate about inspiring young people to develop a lifelong appreciation for nature. By working with schools on and around the developments we manage, we help children discover the wildlife on their doorstep and encourage them to play an active role in protecting the environment.
Whether through competitions, outdoor learning or community projects, we’re proud to lead initiatives that connect children with the natural world. Here are just a couple of examples:
Butterfly Colouring Competition
We invited schools across England and Wales to take part in our butterfly colouring competition, celebrating the beauty and importance of these much-loved pollinators.
We were overwhelmed by the number of imaginative and colourful entries we received, making the judging process no easy task! After much deliberation, Noah from Codicote Primary School was crowned our winner, receiving a prize hamper packed with creative goodies. The school was also awarded a donation to help enhance its outdoor spaces, creating an even better environment for pupils to learn and enjoy nature.
Competitions like this are a fun way to introduce children to the importance of biodiversity while encouraging creativity and conversations about wildlife in the classroom.
Waterproofs, Wellies and Outdoor Adventures
When Girnhill School, located on the Origin development near Wakefield, approached us for support with its outdoor learning programme, we were delighted to help.
The school has created a fantastic outdoor classroom where pupils can explore, learn and experience nature first-hand. To help ensure the children can enjoy these activities whatever the weather, Meadfleet donated 30 pairs of wellies and 30 waterproof coats, giving pupils the confidence to get outdoors all year round.
Outdoor learning helps children build confidence, curiosity and a deeper understanding of the natural environment. We’re proud to support projects that remove barriers to these valuable experiences and help the next generation develop a lasting connection with nature.
