This year on the 20th May 2026, we are celebrating World Bee Day and its theme this year is ‘Bee Together for People and the Planet – A partnership that sustains us all’. For millennia, humans have relied on bees for food and livelihoods, sustaining both people and the environment.
Bees and other pollinators play a vital role in maintaining life as we know it, with one-third of every bite of food we eat coming from pollinators. From apples and strawberries to coffee and almonds, these species are fundamental to our food production. Bees are excellent environmental indicators, but despite their importance, they are in serious decline. Habitat loss, climate change and chemical use are placing pollinators under increased threat.
As an open space management company, we have a unique responsibility and opportunity to support pollinators at scale. With ecology-led maintenance and long-term stewardship, green spaces can be nurtured into rich, diverse habitats for wildlife – and this is where our Buzz and Flutter campaign comes in!
Through our ambitious 5-year targets, we are actively improving the conditions in which bees and other pollinators depend on to thrive across our open spaces. These include:
🐝 Creating 40,000sqm of new wildflower to provide rich nectar sources.
🐝Planting 150 native oak trees, helping to establish long-term, biodiverse ecosystems that support insects and provide shelter and nesting opportunities.
🐝Establishing 5km of hedgerows, creating connected green corridors that allow pollinators to move safely between feeding and nesting habitats.
🐝Introducing 100,000 wildlife-friendly bulbs, boosting early-season food availability for emerging pollinators.
We also support pollinators through thoughtful planting schemes, providing food sources throughout the seasons. By carefully selecting nectar-rich and native species, we help ensure a continuous supply of forage. We also reduce mowing frequencies in selected areas during the summer months, allowing wildflowers to flourish and create valuable feeding and breeding habitats for pollinators.
World Bee Day highlights the significance of protecting bees and other pollinators. Through our Buzz & Flutter campaign, alongside ecology-led maintenance, we are helping to create richer habitats for pollinators. Together, these efforts support healthier ecosystems and more resilient green spaces for the future.
